There is no hiss at all, and before I removed the head, with plugs in, there was zero noticeable compression. I honestly do not think the rings are making any contact with the cylinder walls. I decided to pull the head and look at the valves, and yep, one of them is stuck open. Just a little goo but the jets and passages all came clean. I pulled the carb and took it all apart and it was in much better shape. The pickup tube was likewise filled with crust so I used a drill bit by hand and got it all cleaned out. Dumped out the rocks and rinsed it with gas until it ran clear, and used a flashlight to see I had it nice and clean. I put about a pint of limestone rocks from my driveway in it and shook it for an hour, in every direction, with many breaks to suck wind. As I shook it come chunks of black crud fell out. Today I pulled off the tank and dumped out some brownish red syrupy gas. They all intend to keep the output voltage with in a narrow range through out the designed load range. I add here that even at a constant 1800 rpm it will get loud as the load increases and the throttle opens to provide the additional power.
